What motivates me to study?

When I was in grade school, my parents always tell me that I will be given a “special prize” if I do well in school and if I don’t, a long sermon awaits me. That basically motivated me to study at first, but suddenly declined due to their delayed promises. As I move on to secondary education, the allowance given to us every month inspired me to study. I was a scholar back then, and therefore I must maintain an “above average” grade to be able to retain in that school and to receive the monthly allowance as well. Perhaps it was money that motivated me to study then.

This summer, I can not hardly see why I still pursue nursing considering that I shouldn’t be in this course in the first place. However, the face of my mom and dad that keeps appearing to me, as if they were haunting me, was mainly the reason why I still continue. I really don’t want to have my summer vacation be bombarded by summer classes and I certainly also don’t want to put to waste the efforts of my parents. Who would want to?

This college, my perception of studying and education broadened. For me, it defines a person. If you are educated, you can get a job and have a better life in the future. If you are educated, you can feel and be seen like an expert. If you are educated, you can feel like a “big part of the society”. Lastly, if you are educated, there is a big desire to help other people, to make them an educated person as well.
